Keeping us honest

Most business owners today tell you that keeping their customers happy is key to having a successful business.

Actually, we disagree. Happy customers aren’t enough any more – we think they have to be amazed. Not only do they have to like what they see and hear; we also have to strike an emotional chord. We want them to go, “Wow!”

In that “Wow!” lies everything.

With practice and dedication, the technology we work with helps us create great digital film and sound recordings, but our aim is to go beyond pretty pictures. The difference between models in top fashion magazines trained to become a blank canvas showcasing the clothes they wear, and what touches us in images of real people, is their humanity. Our job is to capture that humanity: real people telling stories that connect them to others.

There are a million things that filmmakers need to do accomplish this. We learn new ones every day. No two connections are identical, or work in the same way. It’s actually not about technique or “conducting an interview”. People don’t connect with a camera, they connect with the person behind it. So for us, what it really boils down to is how we connect with our customers. We have to become transparent so they can feel safe. We have to listen so they feel heard. We need to be vulnerable and open so they can trust us. When these things happen, magic follows.

Our hope is that we are successful in doing this with anyone who tells us their stories. People’s stories form part of who they are, often not something they expose frivolously for the world to see. When people talk about events in their lives we want them to feel comfortable and completely at ease.

Using film, music and a bit of editing, our goal and gift is to help others tell those stories as beautifully as they would want to tell it themselves, in a way that preserves them forever.

We hope you’ll keep us company as we join our customers on their journey. We know we’ll be learning about people, about ourselves and about developing our craft as film makers. We’ll share what we can of this with you. There is no doubt in our minds that our customers will keep us honest – and you will too.
